On Wednesday, tornadoes swept through the Midwest. At least 50 tornadoes were reported across 4 states. The majority of the tornado reported yesterday came from Oklahoma and Kansas while a few reports came from Nebraska and Texas. During the storm, a U-Haul Self-Storage Affiliate was also caught in the path of a tornado. American Self Storage #8, a facility with over 350 units located at 4900 South Hattie in Oklahoma City has seen better days.

Today was not one of those days. With all the damage to the facility, the employees were busy cleaning up debris and completing one of the most difficult task, notifying the customers of potential damage to their storage unit. Luckily, American Self Storage was not alone. Just a day after the tornado swept through the facility, seven Safestor adjusters converged on American Self Storage #8 to help. Although not all customers took Safestor tenant insurance coverage, at least a third of the tenants did. For those that did, Safestor adjusters were onsite to make sure the claims process was quick and easy. The monetary compensation Safestor customers receive may not equal the loss of the goods they stored at the facility. However, it will help ease the pain of losing what they had stored.
For those self-storage facilities that do not currently offer tenant insurance, I hope you will reconsider after reading this post. A disaster can occur at any moment, make sure your customers are taken care of.
